Message Welcome to TwinTurbo.NET, without a doubt the most informative site for the 1990 to 1999 Nissan 300ZX. Here’s a few tips to help you in your new second life (trust me, it’s going to be your second life).

1. FAQ and Search should become your first new best friends in this new life. Considering this site has been around since February of 1996 (back then as TwinTurbo.com), there aren’t many questions you could possibly ask that haven’t been covered before. First check FAQ, then Auto-FAQ (incase it’s not yet officially FAQed), then Search. We do understand that there are some questions with too many variables and details to search, and therefore you must give us details for us to help you, and in this case, it’s no problem. Otherwise, questions like “Can I Twin Turbocharge my Non-Turbo Z?” will result in flaming and people telling you to search (in fact, this specific question has been asked so many times that it has its own “sticky post” in the Technical Forum).

2. When asking for Technical assistance, give details. “Why won’t my Z start?” will not yield any helpful responses because there are too many possibilities. Instead, tell us what all the symptoms are so that we can come up with a better idea of your problem (or so we can ask for more specific details that’d narrow down the possibilities).

3. The 300ZX (Z32) was made from 1990 to 1999, trust me. They were only sold in America until 1996. Convertibles and Slicktops were only made in non-turbo form, while all Twin Turbos have T-Tops (this is of course assuming the car hasn’t been converted), and there were also Non-Turbos with T-Tops. T-tops are the standard and Slicktops are rare. Two plus two’s (2+2 or 4 seater) were all Non-Turbos in America, while in Europe and Japan they were available as Twin Turbo (and not all European Z’s are right-hand-drive, there are left-hand-drive Euro Z’s). For more info on body styles, colors, years, and options, check the FAQ.

4. We don’t like rice. Extravagant body kits are frowned upon. Stickers are pointless. Aluminum and/or carbon fiber spoilers belong on racecars, not streetcars. The Z was sold with a single color paint job and should typically stay that way, and if you’re painting the car, be careful which color you choose. Carbon fiber hoods don’t reduce the weight of the Z (at all) and are therefore purely cosmetic (and we don’t generally like them for that matter). Carbon fiber is only truly acceptable if it’s used to drastically reduce weight, and this does not mean interior inlays. Blow off valves are not whistles, they have a purpose, therefore if you’re going to ask about them, telling us you “like the sound” is not advised (buy them for their performance value, not their sound, and if you choose a louder one, don’t let anyone know you bought it because it was louder). And yes, there are “Lambo-Door” kits for the Z32, but that’s also seen as pointless considering it adds weight and has no performance value at all (but we do generally understand that if your Z is a show car, it – as well as many of these things - won’t hurt your scores). The only acceptable taillights are J-Spec and stock, and this doesn’t mean J-Spec or stock with vinyl cutouts.

5. On the other end of the spectrum, the Z is not a Cadillac or Caprice. Overly large rims, hydraulics (unless possibly being used to lower the car more for racing and raising it for street use), excessive use of TV’s, and overly extravagant stereo systems are typically thought of as ridiculous (stereo’s to a lesser extent). Spinners on a Z are not OK.

6. It’s GReddy, not GReedy. HKS Hiper, not Hyper (High performance, not Hygh Performance), and while we’re on the subject of Hiper, yeah, it’s UGLY, but it’s also the best performing exhaust available for the Z. Stillen = Stealin (so don’t ask what Stealin is, we refer to them as Stealin because they’re expensive). JWT = Jim Wolf Technology, Ash = member AshZ, both tune 300ZX’s. Popcharger = Cone Filter style air intake. NA = Naturally Aspirated (non-turbo). TT = Twin Turbo. PETZ = People for the Ethical Treatment of Z’s (TT.NET’s rice patrol basically).

7. To be in the “Rides” section, look it up in FAQ under “Site FAQ.” Don’t post an item you’re selling in the General or Technical Forums, that’s why we have a Classifieds Forum. Fill out your profile, it’s useful to the people looking to help you. Don’t be offended that a “Stage Stock Addict” is “A brand new user. Probably hasn't discovered the FAQ or Search functions yet. Hopefully first post isn't 'Because regular Zs are slow, I'm building a flying one.' Still 100% socially active,” every new user is, and it’s not at all unique to you. Nixit (or Ni[x]it) is going to make fun of you at some point, Spee, Genic, Guapo, and SEVERAL others probably will too, deal with it.

8. We generally don’t like Mustangs, Camaros are OK, Corvettes are competition, Supras are overpriced, and 3000GTs are too heavy.

9. To post a picture, use [ [ L I | webaddressofpicture ] ] and remove all spaces (pic must be uploaded to a website, not geocities – Streetneeds.com is a good uploader). For a link, it’s the same think with LL instead of LI (think Link to a Link and Link to an Image).

10. Unless your mechanic is Z1Motorsports, UltimateZ, or some other Z car specialist, don’t always trust they’re right about the Z32, and don’t always think that your best interests are in mind when they’re helping you. Instead, it’s always a good idea to get advice from tt.net on work you’re having done.

11. This hasn’t ever been an issue in my time on tt.net, but don’t try to belittle an NA just because (if) you’re a TT, because a Z is a Z, whether it has turbos or not.

So in conclusion, be careful what you post, try not to start flame wars, and have fun while learning, because that’s what the site is all about. In due time you’ll begin to see the other members of TT.NET as your friends, and you’ll realize Z Ownership is like being in a cult, and when it all comes down to it, we all stand up for each other. We have a lot more in common than most would think. And if you’re reading the 4th or 5th tip and saying “oh shit, I like the Veilside fascia and I want an APR wing,” don’t worry, because in time, you’ll fall in love with the stock body lines until one day you’ll wake up (no joke) and realize you don’t want to rice out your Z anymore – and to me, that’s when you truly become an enthuZiast.

==========Sig Begins Here==========

"Used to date a girl that was missing her right hand......
She drove [a] Civic (5spd with a big circle a-top shifter) and wore a lot clothes that had a lot of buttons. She felt she needed to simplify her life for no one. But the relationship went down hill cause I began to think she was rude. She never clapped at concerts, she never liked working out (and I am a big jump rope freak), when we went swimming ... she would just swim around in circles by herself, I used to whoop her as at Playstation. Like I said... she was just boring" - Posted by Milo (Sport Z Magazine) on October 27, 2003 at 12:27 PM
